I swear…the next time I hear someone talking trash about Asheville being a “Bring Your Own Job” town, I am going to send them a link in a strongly worded email to our job board. And I’m going to track that link. I’m going to bit.ly them so hard, they won’t know what hit them. You AVL startups are hot on the hiring, so we’re bringing the Hot Takes on the Job Board back. Keep scrolling to read some snappy one-liners.

But before that, let me holler at the winner of last week’s Micro Grant raffle: CHRIS CAVANAUGH! Mazal tov, Chris. You’re getting a jar of Char Grow Biogranules™. Let us know how your garden blooms! (I’ll contact you separately to coordinate pickup.)

If you donate this week, you’ll get a full set of caramel candies from Postre, sweet! (get it?) This is a $30 value and all you have to do is support local startups. How? By donating to our Micro Grant program of course. Now all you need to do is donate $100 and the Wells Fargo Foundation fills in the other $100. But this is just for a limited time, so get in there and make that donation, right now!

Anyone out there figure out that all our raffle items are coming from Elevate? That’s just one of the perks, amigos. We leverage our reach to support our startups. And you can too. Have you heard of the Asheville Impact Micro Grant program, yet? LOL, ok ok ok I’ll give it a rest…once you make your donation!

What else is shaking?

Hey, it’s National Entrepreneurship Week! What does that even mean? In 2006, Congress signed off on House Resolution 699. It created a website with no favicon and a busted events calendar with 14 events. I get why these things are done, but it’s kind of like National Grilled Cheese Day if you’re pickin up what I’m puttin down. And don’t forget about Asheville Entrepreneurship Week in September. Well, in honor of the 2006 Congress (shout out to the 109th Congress!), we have some entrepreneurial events for you this week and every week. Every week is National Entrepreneurship Week when you write this newsletter!

2/20 – 9 am Pitch Breakfast, the return of Justin Agans and Juan Garzon. Featuring Elite HRV, Church Learn, and Burban.

2/20 – 6 pm Intro to the Asheville Startup Scene, me and cofounder of Supportedly, Stephanie Kissel, lay out the landscape of this diverse and multi-faceted ecosystem. Shine bright like a diamond, Asheville startups.

2/21 – 4:30 pm 4th National Climate Assessment Panel: Cities, Conservancy & Resilience. This session will feature speakers from the North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies, NEMAC+FernLeaf, and the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy. Discussions will feature the impact of climate change on cities, and the importance of conservancy in creating and maintaining climate resilience.

3/1 – 8:30 am YPA Professional Development and Morning Networking. Join the Young Professionals of Asheville every first Friday for our monthly Professional Development and Morning Networking. Details for individual events can be found here.

And now for those hot takes

Fullsteam Labs needs a Software and Support Engineer – It’s fully remote, and you get a $300 home office stipend for rent. I’m no CPA but that sounds like quite an accountable startup!

Donde esta la biblioteca? No clue. But I do know Bilbio.com needs a web developer who knows PHP/MySQL…sounds like someone has some snazzy database chops.

Podcraft has two openings: Sales Executive and Content and Social Marketing Manager. I’d like to commend Dan on splitting the sales and marketing responsibilities. And if I compliment him enough in my newsletter, maybe I can convince to help me with my own podcast. Gosh that Dan Radin, he’s got my favorite podcast startup in Elevate!

Thermo-Fisher Scientific is hiring a Packaging Engineer in its Lab Product Division. The last science lab I was in was probably high school, so I bet this job is just putting beakers and graduated cylinders in packing peanuts and shipping them off. Or something with pipets. Weird that you’d need a Master’s for that. Maybe someone else with an inkling of engineering knowledge should write this one.

Western Carolina University can be your future employer if you’re a talented web developer and can make them a customized CMS. That means WCU needs a web dev for a CMS in HTML and WP. OK!

You down with the outdoors, fitness, and social media? Holler at Darby Communications and maybe you can be the Social Media Manager and PR Account Lead they’ve been dreaming of!

These are just some recent ones. You can find plenty more online. Happy hunting, job seekers!

That’s it for me for this week. L8R G8R.

Your favorite micro-influencer of micro grants,

Jeff
