This Micro Grant is on a tear! Up to $17,200, amigos! We have only 24 donation spots remaining in the Wells Fargo matching campaign. So if you’ve been on the fence, waiting for a check to clear, or need more encouragement – here it is. There are only 24 spots left at the $100 level. Then we close the round.

For the savvy math peeps out here, you may realize we don’t finish at a clean $20,000. Because of the match and remaining spots, we’ll actually finish at $22,000. AVL Technologies has generously agreed to finishing out the grant, at a donation of $3,000! That means we’ll end the grant fundraising at a solid $25,000, funding five full $5,000 grants to startups. But only if we get all 24 donations in. We must have all 24 donations completed to release the final $3,000.

For every donation that comes in, I’ll eat an egg in your honor. It goes without saying we’ll post each one of these to Instagram. You donate, I eat. Why eggs? Because we needed 24 of something, and two cases of eggs just kind of made the most sense at the time. Now that I’ve bought the eggs and committed to this plan, I’m really second guessing this whole idea. Here’s some facts about 24 eggs:

  • 1,872 calories
  • 144 grams of protein
  • 120 grams of fat
  • 4,488 milligrams of cholesterol

And the most important stat: five fully funded grants for startupsMake your donation now. $100. Only 24 spots left. Join our community in this egg-citing campaign.

ROAD TRIP!

Remember Demo Day? In January you heard 15 startups pitch, six of them requested funding. Now we’re taking four of those startups and two more on a road trip across The Old North State to share the Asheville magic with each of these communities, meet investors, and bring home some cash – in what we’re calling, “The Asheville Startup Road Trip.”

On March 18th, I’m loading a 12-passenger van with six startups, a couple of coolers of drinks and snacks, and the official Spotify “Road Trip To Kyoto” Playlist. First stop is Charlotte for a lunch-time program, then Winston-Salem for an evening program with Venture Café. The next day, it’s off to Durham for another lunch pitch at the American Underground with our friends from NC IDEA, followed by wrapping up the tour in Cary with Cofounders Capital. We’ll reveal the event links, locations and companies pitching soon, but in the meantime, I wanted you to hear it from us first.

Our goal is to expose the NC investor community to the breadth of opportunities here in AVL and to get our startups funded. We’ll meet about 200 angel investors over four pitches in two days. And the value of this little road trip is $3 million in funding. We’ll do our best to bring it home. You can help. Once we publicize the event links, please share with friends and colleagues in Charlotte, the Triad, and the Triangle.

On a personal note

To the over 50 of you who watched my Instagram story of me boiling eggs last night, thank you.
