Somebody’s getting a $5,000 check to blast off into startup stardom. Ka-boom, ka-blam! Thank you to our early donors. In one week, we met our first milestone of 25 donors. That means somebody, maybe you, is going to receive a $5,000 check, which is more like rocket fuel, injected into their startup, which is more like a rocket ship.

Our fundraising period is still open. The more money we bring in, in these individual $200 tax-deductible donations, the more money we pump directly back into early-stage startups.  There’s no skimming, no transaction fees, no cut going the Jeff Kaplan Fund. Every dollar goes right into a startup struggling to get off the starting blocks.

The donors, selection committee, and winners will be invited to a private reception on April 22nd. You only get an invite if you’re one of those people. There’s no limit on invitations, like there’s no limit on how much money we can raise. Join us, be part of the next great Asheville startup story.

Speaking of clicking things on the internet, right after you donate to our Micro-Grant program (and also donate on behalf of your dog) hop on over to avlgreater.org to take the AVL Greater survey.

I know what you’re thinking—what does this have to do with entrepreneurship? I’ll let you in on a little secret. In this survey, which informs the Chamber’s twenty year strategic foresight process, there’s a list of fifteen trends you can rank from most critical to least critical. And guess what’s listed as one of the trends?!

Rising entrepreneurship. That’s right. The Chamber’s goal is to hear from 1% of Asheville’s total population, which is about 3,000 people. If you don’t speak up about the future of Asheville’s entrepreneurship, who else will?  Don’t let your voice to go unheard in this planning process. Find 10-15 minutes in your day. Take the survey. And hey, you might even win a gift card while you’re at it.
