There’s long been a notion that if you move to Asheville and your job or business falls through, there are no options for a plan B. Our city’s reputation as a Bring Your Own Job economy has persisted for so long, it’s almost become a joke. But if you look closely, Asheville’s budding entrepreneurial ecosystem may have stolen the punch line.

Visit our Venture Asheville Job Board and you’ll find over 70 open positions at local startups and tech companies. And when Alesha Odell (pictured), recently lost her job after a local startup failed, she got three job offers from local tech companies within just two weeks. In fact, every FT employee at her company found a new job within weeks. Now, clearly issues still persist for those seeking to work for risky startups and find high salary positions, but this BYOJ stigma may just be a bit more nuanced—and dare we say outdated—than many here realize.
