Asheville’s newest startup event, Pitch for Pitchers, launched last week to a packed house at Hi-Wire Brewing. Five entrepreneurs gave 1-minute pitches, each followed by 2 minutes of rapid-fired Q&A with the energized audience. The winning pitch, worth $50 and a free pitcher of beer, went to Brian Beun with Shakedown Street Farm, an aquaponics startup providing local, organic produce year round. The runner-up was Grocery Grabber, a mobile app that helps shoppers efficiently locate groceries using RFID tags. All four runners-up also won free pitchers of Hi-Wire beer! Here’s the lineup of pitches we heard:
- Winner (photo left): Brian Beun – Shakedown Street Farm
- Ben Teague – Grocery Grabber (photo above)
- Garland Walker – Asheville Adventure Concierge
- Mark Bloom – Ray Access, an internet marketing business
- Bill Dorfman – Bronco Billy’s Mac ‘n Cheese
Save the date for next month’s pitch event on Tuesday, February 10 at The Funkatorium.
