The Asheville Citizen-Times reported on a historic deal this week:
The $65-million acquisition of downtown-based DoctorDirectory by Everyday Health of New York on Nov. 12 is believed to be the largest tech-company transaction of its kind in Western North Carolina history, said Josh Dorfman, Director of Entrepreneurship Development for Venture Asheville and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. “A deal like this boosts confidence across our startup community,” Dorfman said. “It encourages our entrepreneurs to think bigger, expand their vision and set loftier goals.”
DoctorDirectory, which currently employs 81, plans to hire between 15 and 20 people by the end of next year. Openings could be in every department, including marketing, design, information technology, operations and project management, said DoctorDirectory President and CEO Jay Grobowsky.
According to the press release, Everyday Health’s “professional business grew over 35% in the first nine months of this year.”
