Excitement has been brewing around Asheville’s newest startup event, Pitch for Pitchers. The monthly event filled the floor at Twin Leaf Brewery on Tuesday, March 10th with a record crowd of about 80 people. Five entrepreneurs pitched their 1-minute startup ideas to the audience, which then shot back questions in 2-min rapid-fire Q&A sessions.

The most votes went to Scott Schneider of Scott’s Knots, an organic vegan soft pretzel company providing nourishment at breweries and beer events. A business he recently launched, the pretzels are hand made on a solar-powered push cart. He won $50 and a pitcher of beer, with the runners up also winning pitchers of Twin Leaf’s inventive craft beer. Second place went to Toby Weas’ Micro Real Estate financing business, which profits from helping small to medium-sized home builders overcome lending issues to acquire the land they build houses on.

The five business idea pitches were:

  • Winner (photo above): Scott Schneider – Scott’s Knots, an organic soft pretzel company
  • Toby Weas – Micro Real Estate financing for home builders
  • Chris Power & Chris Nevel – Asheville Beer City-opoly, an AVL-themed game and souvenir
  • Ian Montgomery – Blue Ridge Aromatics, a craft essential oils distillery with an Indigogo campaign
  • Tony Miller – Beer & Napkins, drives idea revolutions in informal grassroots environments

Save the date for next month’s pitch event on Monday, April 6 at One World Brewing.
