In May, Venture Asheville held the annual Ignite Asheville event, now in its third year. Ten speakers from early stage ventures presented insights during five-minute lightning rounds about their big ideas and how they embrace challenges through ingenuity and collaboration. Held at the legendary Orange Peel, Ignite Asheville was a fun, fast-paced way for the entrepreneurial community to hear from some of its most promising local talent.

Michael Shore of BarberWind Turbines won “most inspiring” presentation, which came with a $1,000 cash prize. His startup utilizes groundbreaking wind technology to produce more cost-effective, productive, transportable and environmentally-friendly commercial scale wind turbines.

The runner-up and crowd favorite was Jesse Lee of Outrider USA, whose recent Kickstarter campaign raised over $125K to commercialize the world’s first electric trike for quadriplegics.
