Federal Reserve official sees slow, steady growth ahead.

After a two-day visit to the area, Jeffrey Lacker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, found plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Asheville’s economy. “You read about Asheville, its beer and restaurants. You read a little deeper and you hear about its advanced manufacturing, but I was impressed by the entrepreneurial drive here. It’s a broader, deeper, more diverse economy than I had expected,” Lacker said.

Entrepreneur Meg Ragland was singled out by Lacker for her winning business Plum Print, which turns children’s artwork into unique coffee table books for proud parents. On Wednesday, Plum Print was plugged as a good investment on the financial cable network CNBC. Tom Tveidt, a local economic analyst who runs Syneva Economics, said, “Entrepreneurs are especially important. He [Jeffrey] also saw that we have a cohesive community that works together.”
